1511 restaurants permanently closed in US in September, the lowest number of closings in 2021. In September, 1144 new restaurants were opened. 

Looking at the past quarter, Subway had another 220 restaurants close in Q3. Over that same period, Starbuck’s has actively been shifting their locations, with 44 permanently closings and 24 new openings, the largest number of new openings of any chain in the past quarter.

In Canada, 189 locations permanently closed in September, down from 260 in August. Over the past 6 months, the largest # of new units added by any chain Canada was 5 (Pizza Hut). Over the same period, Tim Hortons closed 35 locations.
